There was much goodwill and rejoicing in mid-October this year, when it was announced that there’s to be a new Catwoman in town — and she’s a member of the tribe! Playing opposite Robert Pattinson in the upcoming movie The Batman, it’s our Jewish fashion icon of the month, Zoë Kravitz.

The Kravitz pedigree

Her dad is rocker Lenny Kravitz and her mom is so cool that even Beyonce pays homage (yes, Beyonce dressed up as Lisa Bonet for Halloween last year). So it’s no surprise that Zoë Kravitz’s fashion evolution goes way back. When British Vogue recently charted her most stylish moments, they started in her childhood, when she was pictured with father Lenny at awards shows and runway presentations in mini-me leather jackets. But while she’s happy to admit that she raids her parents’ wardrobes, she’s since carved out an elegance that’s all her own.

This year’s best dressed

Seriously, who else could pull off bridal bike shorts for a wedding rehearsal dinner? Not to mention the coolest leather jackets ever, AKA the matching his-n-hers jackets that Kravitz and new husband Karl Glusman showed off at their wedding — each one had an illustration of their new spouse on the back, together with a ‘Just Married’ banner. Vanity Fair rewarded her with a spot on its Best-Dressed List this year, including her in the ‘Virtuosos’ section (along with the flamboyant likes of Marc Jacobs and Celine Dion), accompanied by an image of Kravitz rocking an insanely bright pair of neon green pants with a tan suede coat thrown casually over the top. Her style motto? “No fear,” she told the magazine.

Services to jewelry

Thinking of dipping a toe into the multiple earrings trend, or contemplating a new piercing or two? You can thank Kravitz for putting the idea into your head. With a tragus (the skin in front of the ear canal) among her ear piercings, Kravitz is a pioneer of the trend known as the curated ear. She regularly sports multiple pairs of earrings on the red carpet, mixing dainty studs with multi-carat showstoppers to add an edge to Met Gala jewelry. And it’s not just her ears that are bejeweled. The star of Tiffany & Co’s holiday campaign last year, she stepped out in the brand’s 18k gold bra top at the Oscars after-party in February.

But back to Catwoman. As she ably demonstrated in season two of Big Little Lies, this is a woman who can even make a bobbly old maxi cardigan look good — so what can she do with the iconic latex catsuit? If anyone can work a pair of cat ears and flick a tail just so, it’s got to be Zoë Kravitz.
