It’s summer in the northern hemisphere and it’s time to enjoy the last weeks of sunshine. Whether you’ll be at the beach or in the mountains, we’ve discovered eight gadgets to complete your summer.
We’ve all experienced the frustration of having our mobile phone lose power when we’re at the beach or even just out for a walk. Mobeego is an Israeli portable battery that plugs directly into your phone and provides instant power when you need it. This one-time use product resembles a small can and is simple to use. It lasts for 1-4 hours depending on the device being used, and has an amazing shelf life of 10 years, so you can buy several in advance without worrying about them running out of juice before you need it.
Available for both androids and iPhones, at just $4 per can (it does also require an adapter for your phone), it’s well worth having a few on hand “just in case”. Available from B&H Photo online.
2CGear Sand-Free Mat
The CGear sand-free mat is an incredible creation that, with a simple sweep of your hand will make the sand on top drop down through the two-layer weave material, where it is unable to come back up. This patented mat was first developed for use by helicopters so that dust clouds and airborne grit didn’t interfere with the aircraft’s operation. Its design has since been expanded to more than 100 products including mats, backpacks, tote bags, towels, footwear and even compact outdoor chairs.
Mats come in sizes to fit one, two, four and six person tents and are perfect for use with drones, RVs, for picnics, the beach, hiking and camping. Available at retailers including REI, Cabela’s and Ron Jon Surf Shops in the U.S., at select retailers in Europe, or online at cgear-sandfree.com. Prices vary by product and size.
3TReGo bicycle trolley
While some gadgets are trendy and fun, the TReGo bicycle trolley is nothing short of ingenious. Israeli inventor Ofir Yadan came up with the idea out of sheer frustration. An avid cyclist, he wanted to ride his bike when shopping for heavier items but found that he too often needed a car. In just a few short seconds his amazing TReGo utility attachment allows an everyday bicycle to become a more practical transportation mode for larger and heavier objects.
The TReGo trolley can haul up to 50 pounds, making it perfect to take an ice chest to the beach, a heavy backpack to school or work, or to bring home a week’s worth of groceries. The company is dedicated to developing products that will be environmentally-friendly, taking people out of cars in congested cities and encouraging increased use of bicycles.
Amazingly, the 16” twin-tire TReGo replaces your bicycle’s front tire to ensure stability. And, at your destination, it can be easily disconnected and utilized as a shopping cart. There are no tools involved with the connection, and the front bicycle brake is replaced by two hydraulic disc brakes via TReGo’s Fast Connector.
The front trolley became available last summer, and the company will soon offer a bike cart that will attach to the rear tire. Check out this video showing some of the great ways to put the TReGo bicycle trolley to use.
4Kobo Aura H20 Edition 2
Summer is the perfect time to get caught up on your reading, so why not pick up a waterproof e-reader that you can safely use at the beach, poolside, or even while soaking up a luxurious bath? While there are lots of choices of e-readers, the Kobo Aura H20 Edition 2 has become one of the most popular with sun worshippers.
The Kobo features their “comfortlight” technology which allows you to change the screen from bright white, which can be problematic on bright sunny days, to a more orange hue that makes reading from it much easier on the eyes. The large 6.8- inch no-glare screen can be totally submerged in water and still work afterward, and even a spilled cup of coffee won’t affect its performance. Better yet, the H20 is dust-proof, meaning that beach sand won’t get into your device. The Toronto-based company offers more than 5 million e-books and magazines in 68 languages to its 12 million customers worldwide. Kobo products are available at retailers including Amazon, eBay, and Wal-Mart.
Families traveling by air during summertime have so many things to take with them and precious little space. Founded in 2013 in Ra’anana by an Israeli immigrant from the UK, Mifold eliminates the need to take along bulky car seats while vacationing. Their amazing line of grab-and-go foldable car booster seats is designed for toddlers who weigh from 40-100 pounds and are between 40-57 inches tall. Every lightweight model meets or exceeds global safety standards.
The original Mifold is 10 times smaller than a standard booster seat when compacted into its carrying case, and the recently introduced Hifold is one-third the size of your standard booster seat. The Mifold is so small that it folds inside a child’s backpack for easy access for a ride via taxi, Uber or Lyft, on aircraft, or when riding in someone else’s car. The company has retailers worldwide, including Target, Kohl’s and Amazon in the U.S.
